I use Laptop rather than a pc..I excessively use my laptop.After 7 months my battery icon in system tray showed a message to change my battery.I got worried but then again I thought that I am still under warranty so I called the customer care so that they might replace my battery.But to my horror I learned that battery is not included in warranty.I was left with a single alternative to buy a battery.It cost a lot of money which taught me to take care of my battery.So the very same day I searched the net for methods which will help in maintaining my battery life.I have accumulated all the things that I have learned in this post.Hope this post will help you in maintaining your battery life.

1. The most important problem that drains your battery is a fragmented hard disk.Fragmented hard disk means more demand on battery.Thus reducing it’s life.So you should defragment your hard disk regularly.You should atleast once weekly defragment your hard disk.

2. Increase your ram.This will allow you to process more with the memory available rather than depending on virtual memory.Virtual memory uses your hard disk and is not power efficient.

3. You should clean your battery contacts regularly.Cleaning them ensures that they get the right amount of power during charging.Clean the contact with cloth moistened with rubbing alcohol.

4. Avoid usage of your DVD or CD drive they consume lot of power.Instead run off your hard drive.I used to watch a lot of movie by running a DVD on my DVD drive.Now I copy the contents to my hard drive and then used to watch it.Will advice you to do same to increase your battery life.

5. You should never keep your battery dormant for a long period of time once charged you should use it once every one or two week.And also don’t allow your lithium-ion battery to completely discharge.

6. In your laptop there will be lot of programs that will be running in the background.Cut off the programs which are not essential.Remember to shut down your WI-FI when not in use.

7. Dim your screen and also adjust such that the the display goes off after certain period of time.For this goto control panel>power options in that there will be option to turn off your display after some time set it to 15minutes.

8. You should hibernate instead of standby as hibernating saves your pc state as it’s and completely shuts it down.

9. Environment plays a big role on the life of your battery.Extreme heat reduces your battery span.You should not keep your laptop on your lap or pillow as it blocks the air circulation.You should keep your laptop on a cooling pad.

10. Lastly whenever you buy a battery first research on it’s estimated battery life.Don’t go for a cheap battery as they will die soon instead go for expensive once as they will have more life.
